i already have first coulmn set to autonumber.
whenever i import new xlsx data, the new rows creates do not have autonumbering applied.
How to fix this?

autonumber format is 0000.
it is one of column type.
Are you sure you are using autonumber column type?

Do me a favour. Create a new column, switch the type to autonumber and have a look at the description. The number depends how to enter the format for the autonumber.
For example:
- 0000 means it will start with 0001
