SeaTable Cloud Upgrade to SeaTable 4.4

On May 15, 6:00 CET, SeaTable Cloud will be upgraded to the SeaTable 4.4. The service will be unavailable for roughly 15 minutes.

SeaTable 4.4 entails three important changes which we want to inform you about ahead of time as they may make necessary adjustments to your bases, apps and forms.

More powerful default values: The default values defined in the base now apply universally when a new row is added in the web interface. This means, if a default value is defined in a row, it applies when a row is added

  • in the base and in the app via “Add row” / “Insert row”
  • in the base and in the app via “Add record” in a link column
  • in the base and in the app via a form
  • via a button action “Copy row to other table”
  • via an automation action “Copy row to other table”

When a row is added via API / a script, the parameter “apply_default”, which is added in SeaTable 4.4, determines whether new rows are populated with the default values or not.

In SeaTable 4.3 and older versions, default values were only added to new rows in bases when the new rows were added manually via “Add row” and “Insert row” (bottom of the table and row’s context menu, respectively) or via “Add record” in link columns.

New data query app builder: The new version introduces a new data query app builder which is based on the universal app builder. It looks a bit different than the old app builder, but you can do just the same things. Existing apps based on the old data query app builder continue to work for the foreseeable future. But we recommend to rebuild your data query apps using the universal app builder or the new data query app builder.

Discontinued gallery app builder: SeaTable 4.4 will no longer feature the gallery app builder. While some may miss the convenience, the gallery apps end is no functional loss. Going forward, if you want to create a gallery app, please use the universal app builder and add a gallery page. The gallery page in the universal app builder has the same features as the now discontinued gallery app builder. Existing gallery apps continue to work for the foreseeable future. But we recommend to rebuild your gallery apps using the universal app builder.
